Advocating To Preserve Community-Based Care.
The Patient Access to Community Treatment (PACT) Coalition is an alliance of patient advocacy organizations, provider groups and health care distributors, committed to ensuring that patients have access to quality, affordable, community-based care.
Community-based care provides many patient-centric benefits:
- Coordinated delivery of specialized care
- Reduced traveling distance for patients, family members and caregivers
- Improved quality of care with a patient-centric model
- More personalized treatment plans
- Cancer-type support groups
- Comfort, convenience and familiarity
We believe that community-based care provides critical benefits for patients, and plays an integral role in their treatment both physically and emotionally. Unfortunately, access to community-based care has been increasingly threatened.
Over the last several years, studies have illustrated that community-based practices and clinics are closing or integrating with large hospital systems, affecting patients both financially and from a quality of life perspective.
Policies, such as the flawed Medicare Part B reimbursement formulas and arbitrary budget cuts are exacerbating this shift in site of care.
What can we do?
Thankfully, these policies CAN be corrected. PACT communicates the patient perspective and actively advocates for policy solutions at the national level. PACT member organizations represent groups that interact with patients and help them navigate this growing barrier to accessible treatment.
Our efforts are focused on urging Congress to apply common sense solutions that preserve patient access to quality, affordable community-based care.
